Triple Solar PVT heat pump panels included in National Environmental Database (NMD)
Triple Solar’s PVT heat pump panels have been listed in the National Environmental Database (NMD) since 28 February. In cooperation with recognised specialists and suppliers, a life cycle analysis (LCA) was carried out. This identified the environmental impact over the entire life cycle of the Triple Solar PVT heat pump panels. The analysis showed that the PVT heat pump panels score 40% better than a standard solar panel.
An LCA looks at the environmental impact of products and raw materials. From raw material extraction and production to use and waste disposal. It also looks at soil acidification, ozone depletion and the depletion of materials (source: National Environmental Database). The result of an LCA is expressed in a score: the environmental cost indicator (EQI).
For inclusion in the NMD, a product must meet several requirements. Among other things, the LCA must be performed by an independent recognised LCA agency and validated by a recognised NMD assessor.
Through the NMD, those involved in construction projects can make informed material and installation choices based on their environmental impact. Thanks to this NMD, the environmental impact of buildings can also be better communicated and requirements imposed. For civil and utility construction, the total environmental impact is expressed in an Environmental Performance of Buildings (MPG) score. For MPG calculations, PVT panels can now be entered in the calculation tools provided for this purpose.
Cees Mager, founder and CEO of Triple Solar: “The inclusion in the NMD is an official recognition of the broad sustainability of our PVT heat pump panels. But not only that. Together with our suppliers, we will work to reduce the environmental impact of our products even further.”
