VvE Patch22 Successfully Transitions to Gas-Free Living

Amsterdam

Located along the Johan van Hasseltkade in Amsterdam-Noord, Patch22 is a striking 30-meter-high residential tower known for its timber construction and highly flexible layout. With no fixed internal walls and utility systems integrated into hollow floors, spaces can easily be reconfigured over time. A building designed with the future in mind required an energy system to match—but the collective pellet heating system installed in 2017 proved unreliable.

Seeking a more robust and future-proof solution, the residents—organized in a VvE—opted overwhelmingly for a PVT heat pump system from Triple Solar.

Smart Energy Approach
Rather than relying on a single central system, the 31 apartments and 4 commercial units have transitioned to individual installations. This hybrid setup offers the best of both worlds: individual control within each unit, combined with shared energy generation on the roof.

Triple Solar designed the overall energy concept, while installation partner Gebatec handled the technical implementation.

Key components of the system:

  • PVT panels: 212 units installed on the roof generate both electricity and thermal energy
  • Heat pumps: 35 individual systems provide heating, cooling, and domestic hot water for each apartment and commercial space
  • Hybrid infrastructure: A shared hydraulic source on the roof connects seamlessly to individual electrical systems within each unit

Additionally, Gebatec installed:

  • PV panels: 28 extra panels, bringing the total to 240
  • Inverters: M-TEC inverters to manage energy conversion efficiently
  • Engaging Residents in the Transition

A successful energy transition depends on informed and confident residents. To support this, Triple Solar and Gebatec hosted an information session at the Triple Solar headquarters. Residents received a clear, hands-on demonstration of how the system works, how to monitor performance, and how remote system management ensures ongoing reliability.

A Blueprint for Modern VvEs
The transformation of Patch22 demonstrates that even large residential complexes can successfully transition away from gas—without compromising on comfort, performance, or aesthetics. Installation is currently in its final phase, with completion scheduled for late April and full system operation expected by the end of May.
