Mobius Residential Development in Utrecht to Be Energy-Neutral with Triple Solar

The Mobius development is set to be completed in Utrecht in 2026. This sustainable residential project will feature 69 homes in Leidsche Rijn, based on a multi-generational living concept developed by Hegeman Ontwikkeling. The homes are constructed using sustainable materials and are arranged around a shared inner courtyard of over 3,000 m², which includes a greenhouse. There is also a communal building designed for workshops and neighborhood activities.
Mobius demonstrates how innovative energy solutions such as PVT systems can be effectively integrated into residential environments. The shared garden plays a central role in fostering community interaction. More than just a place to live, Mobius serves as a blueprint for how sustainable technologies can support resilient, future-proof communities.
Smart Energy Solutions for Mobius
All homes in Mobius are equipped with PVT systems that generate both electricity and thermal energy for heating, domestic hot water, and cooling. This ensures that every type of residence—from apartments to family homes—benefits from a reliable and sustainable energy supply.
In total, the project includes 326 PVT panels and 69 heat pumps. This setup allows thermal energy to be used efficiently for heating and hot water, while energy generation remains local and future-ready.
By integrating PVT panels on rooftops and installing heat pumps within each home, there is no need for additional outdoor heat pump units in the shared garden. This preserves both the visual quality of the neighborhood and the integrity of the communal green space.
Project Approach
Mobius has been developed through close collaboration between Hegeman Ontwikkeling, real estate company Newomij, the Gemeente Utrecht, and several project partners.
The residential design was created by architectural firm KOW, while the landscaped courtyard was designed by RROG. Construction is being carried out by Hegeman Bouwgroep, and Van der Sluis Installatietechniek is responsible for installing the PV and PVT systems. Triple Solar is supplying the PVT solutions for the project.
Sustainable Living in Leidsche Rijn
Mobius represents a forward-thinking approach to sustainable and community-oriented living. By combining advanced energy systems—such as PVT panels and heat pumps—with a spacious shared courtyard, the development creates a future-proof living environment where residents can enjoy both comfort and a low environmental footprint.
