1. What is the Triple Solar® PVT heat pump panel system and what are the benefits?

The Triple Solar® system consists of Triple Solar heat pump panels in combination with a water / water heat pump. The panels act as a source for the heat pump, which draws energy from the outside air, daylight and sunlight. A coolant: glycol flows through the copper pipes of the exchanger at the back of the heat pump panel. It absorbs the ambient heat and conducts it to the heat pump in the home. The heat pump provides the heat for heating and hot tap water.
Because the heat pump panel is also equipped with a solar panel, it is possible to provide a building from one surface not only with heat and hot tap water, but also with electricity. Natural gas free. And that in all seasons, 24 hours a day.
So why choose between heat or electricity, if the Triple Solar® system makes it possible to generate both?

2. What does the Triple Solar heat pump panel consist of and what does it look like?

The innovative Triple Solar panel consists of a thermal (T) section, which is factory laminated with a photovoltaic (PV) panel; another word for solar panel. This makes it possible, in combination with a heat pump, to generate both heat and electricity. And a nice extra: because the heat from the sun is removed from the panel, the efficiency of the solar panel increases. The whole has the appearance of a normal solar panel, without edge or clamps:

3. What is the difference between a Triple Solar heat pump panel and a standard PVT panel?

Although the Triple Solar heat pump panel is composed of a PV and a T part, it is not a standard PVT panel. The main difference with the many standard PVT panels is that the Triple Solar heat pump panel is designed to generate energy (heat) even when there is no sun. This is possible because the panel can also extract heat from the outside air very well, in addition to sun and daylight. This means that, in combination with a heat pump, free heat can also be extracted from the panel at night. And in winter, the yield is no less than that in summer.


4. Why a heat pump?

In addition to providing a natural gas-free energy solution, a heat pump has several advantages:

High efficiency: A heat pump with an efficiency of up to more than 500% is an excellent heat supplier. The heat that the heat pump gives off is largely extracted from the environment for free. And the heat pump itself only needs a small amount of purchased energy to convert the heat from the environment into usable heat for a home.

Low CO2 emissions: The CO2 emissions from heating via a heat pump are significantly lower – about 60% – compared to heating via a gas boiler.

More living comfort and ease of use: If a heat pump is set correctly, it is no longer necessary to switch the heat pump off or lower when you go to sleep or go out. A heat pump keeps a house (or other building) constantly at the right temperature, in fact like the automatic climate control in cars. The device is also easy to use.

Quiet and reliable: A brine / water heat pump (the type of pump that belongs to the Triple Solar® system) is quiet and maintenance-free and always works – even when it freezes.

With a brine / water heat pump is meant a heat pump that has as medium water / glycol and as delivery water for the heating side. Brine = water + antifreeze additive.

5. What type of heat pump does the heat pump panels belong to and is Triple Solar also the producer of this?

Triple Solar is a producer of the heat pump panels, which can in principle work together with any brine / water heat pump. This type of heat pump has no moving parts, which means that the pump is quiet and maintenance-free and always works – even when it freezes. Triple Solar often works with NIBE heat pumps. Which brand of heat pump you ultimately choose is up to you. Your installer can advise on this.

6. How exactly does the Triple Solar® system work?

The innovative Triple Solar heat pump panel generates electricity via the solar panel and also extracts heat from daylight, sunlight and outside air. Where the electricity goes to the electricity grid, the heat is passed on to the heat pump. Thanks to the combination of three sources of heat, the efficiency of the Triple Solar heat pump panel is high – higher than that of, for example, a solar water heater, which only uses direct sunlight – and forms a stable energy source at any time of the year, 24 hours a day.

The heat pump panel is made of aluminum. Special liquid: glycol flows through pipes under the clean-looking surface. This liquid absorbs the ambient heat from the three sources and conducts it to the heat pump.

Operation of the heat pump

The heat from the source, the Triple Solar heat pump panels, is of relatively low temperature. In the heat pump, the heat is converted into usable, higher heat for a house / building, such as heating and hot tap water. The heat pump, which works on electricity, thus replaces the gas boiler.

The heat pump concerned is an electric compression heat pump (brine / water). The operating principle of this type of heat pump is easiest to explain by its components, the evaporator, compressor and condenser, linked to three phases:

Phase 1: Extracting the heat

There is an evaporator in the heat pump. This evaporator contains a so-called transport liquid, which evaporates at a low temperature. The ambient heat from the source (the heat pump panels) causes the liquid in the evaporator to heat up and evaporate as a result.

Phase 2: Compressing

The electric compressor in the heat pump then compresses the released vapor. This process increases the pressure in the heat pump and increases the temperature.

Phase 3: Release of the heat

Thanks to the expansion valve, the vapor regains space in the condenser. As a result, the pressure decreases and the vapor is converted back into (transport) liquid. Heat is released during this process. This heat is then sent to the heating circuit – the heating system or the boiler. The temperature of the released heat is considerably higher than the temperature of the originally absorbed heat, and can now be used for heating and hot tap water. The transport liquid then flows back to the evaporator, after which the process starts again.



7. What is the influence of the sun and how important is south orientation?

Although the Triple Solar® system for heat does not depend on the sun because the heat pump panel is also able to extract heat from the outside temperature and daylight, it does of course benefit from sunlight. The sun creates a higher source temperature, so that the heat pump needs less electricity to ultimately deliver usable heat. The heat pump therefore operates more efficiently during the day and in summer than at night and in winter. And although the system also works well on the north, it is (even) more economical when installing the panels on the south.

With regard to electricity, of course, still applies: more sun is more electricity.

8. What are the advantages over other systems?

In addition to the Triple Solar® system, there are also other comparable systems: the air / heat pump with air box as source and the heat pump with bottom loop as source. The table below shows the different advantages of the Triple Solar® system compared to these other systems:

9. What requirements must my home / building meet and what preparations are being made for installation?

Installing the Triple Solar® system is simple and easy to realize. However, your home / building must meet a number of requirements and, depending on your home, some preparation is required.

Requirements and preparation

Insulation: The best efficiency is achieved if the house meets current insulation standards. This of course applies automatically to new buildings; for existing buildings, the house / building must have a minimum energy label C. A house with energy label C may not yet be called “green”, but the most important energy-saving measures have been taken: cavity wall insulation, roof insulation, floor insulation and double glazing.

Space: The system needs some space. A heat pump is larger than a boiler and needs about 1 square meter at a height of 2 meters. The floor must also be strong enough to hold the weight of the heat pump, approximately 300 kg.

Roof: The roof construction must be strong enough to support the heat pump panels.

Meter box: The meter box is converted to 3x25A. A request is made to the network administrator for this.

Heating: If there is no underfloor heating, the radiators present are brought to a low temperature heating (LTV) by means of special convectors, with a supply temperature of 35 to a maximum of 45 degrees.

10. How is the system installed?

The Triple Solar PVT heat pump panels, just like ordinary PV solar panels, are standard installed over the roof tiles using a mounting system. You can also choose to replace the normal roofing with the Triple Solar heat pump panels. This is called building integrated, where a waterproof layer is applied under the panels. This is generally a more expensive solution.



There are two options for installing the PVT panels: on the roof tiles or instead of the roof tiles.

In addition to the heat pump panels on the roof, the heat pump with accessories is installed. As mentioned before, this all needs some space. Below you can see the whole in our demo room. This can of course be installed more compactly in a smaller space.

11. How long does delivery and installation take?

If you decide to continue without gas with the Triple Solar® system, you can count on a short delivery time. The installation of the system is easy to realize. Generally, installers are busy with it for 5 days. The installer will set up the system for you so that it works immediately and you don’t have to worry about it.

12. I want to continue without gas with the Triple Solar® system. What now?

You can have the Triple Solar® system installed by you by an installer. After your decision to continue without gas with the Triple Solar® system, the first step is to find a suitable installation company. This can of course be your own trusted installer or one of our partners.


In order to help the installer on the way, it is useful to fill in an inspection form. It is also useful to take photos of:
The place where the heat pump must be placed
The meter cupboard
The house / building with the view from the roof
The radiators in the living room and the kitchen

Successful installation
Of course we help the installer with the necessary instructions for a successful installation of the Triple Solar® system.

Heat pump brand

Triple Solar producer of the heat pump panels, which in principle can work together with any brine / water heat pump. Triple Solar often works together with NIBE heat pumps. It is up to you which brand of heat pump you ultimately choose. The installer can advise you on this.

Costs and Financing

13. What does the system cost, what do I get for it?

You can get the Triple Solar® system from (rounded and rough estimate) at € 25,000 for a typical Dutch doorzon home, excluding subsidies. Below you can see what this amount is made up of. You will also see what you can achieve with the nationally applicable subsidy for heat pumps and the VAT refund on solar panels (see also the question about subsidies and financing).



14. Is it possible to get a grant or other form of financing for the system?

Sustainability is increasingly high on the agenda. There are therefore all kinds of options for financing energy-saving measures, such as the Triple Solar® system. For example, there are national and local subsidies, it is possible to (partly) recover the VAT and you can make use of various sustainability loans.
Via the Energy Subsidy Guide it is possible to check for which financing options you are eligible. Below we also list a number of options.

National subsidy

Investment subsidy renewable energy (ISDE)
In the coming years, the government will encourage Dutch houses and businesses to be heated less by gas and more by sustainable heat. That is why it is possible for both companies and private individuals to receive a subsidy for a heat pump: the Investment Subsidy for Renewable Energy (ISDE). The subsidy amount for a 6 kW heat pump is € 2800 euros. The multi-year plan opened on January 1, 2016 and runs until December 31, 2020.

Energy Investment Allowance (EIA)
There is the Energy Investment Deduction (EIA) for companies that want to make an investment in energy-efficient techniques and sustainable energy. The Triple Solar® system is officially recognized / certified for the scheme. You will receive a tax deduction for clearly described investments (specific), but also for tailor-made investments (generic) that yield substantial energy savings. You can deduct 55% of the investment costs from the taxable profit.

Local subsidy

In addition to national subsidies, there are also many local initiatives to grant subsidies. For example, from 1 September 2017, the municipality of Amsterdam will grant a subsidy to support the frontrunners who are now making the transition to natural gas-free living in the existing housing stock, the Amsterdam Natural Gas-Free Subsidy Scheme. The amount of the subsidy amounts to a maximum of € 8,000 for renovation to a house in which the household uses the same amount or less energy as the house itself generates (Zero On the Meter house) and a maximum of € 5,000 for sustainable heating including natural gas-free cooking.

VAT refund

As a private individual you can also get back the VAT paid for the purchase and installation of solar panels via your tax return. In the case of the Triple Solar heat pump panels, you can therefore recover the VAT on the photovoltaic (PV) panel, which is laminated on the thermal (T) part (for more information about the construction of the panel, see the page The Triple Solar®- system). A detailed step-by-step plan for VAT refunds can be found on the Milieu Centraal website.
Extra mortgage

When you buy a house where there are opportunities to save on energy, banks can provide extra mortgage for this. For example, you can pay part of the costs of the extra mortgage from the savings on your energy bill. For a Zero On The Meter home, where the household uses the same amount or less energy than the house itself generates, there is still extra space. The conditions differ per bank.


The Energy Savings Loan is a scheme from the National Energy Savings Fund, whereby homeowners can take out a loan for energy-saving measures at a favorable interest rate. You can borrow up to € 25,000; if it concerns an energy-neutral home (Zero on the Meter home), it is even € 50,000. It is also possible to take out a loan with an Association of Owners (VVE), for which other amounts apply. For more information, visit the website of the National Energy Savings Fund.
Another option is the Restoration Fund, especially for making monuments more sustainable. Various banks, as well as municipalities, also offer loans.

Certification and production

15. Where is the Triple Solar heat pump panel produced?

The Triple Solar heat pump panels are produced in the Netherlands. The panels are developed and made ready for installation in our own factory in Friesland. The solar panel is produced by Bisol. This company produces all products exclusively within the European Union, which means it can guarantee accurate quality control.

16. TNO certification

In 2009, and again in 2016 and 2017, the Triple Solar heat pump panel was tested by TNO and certified as the panel that has the best properties to function as an energy source for the brine / water heat pump.

Equivalence declaration

The Triple Solar® system has a declaration of equivalence, which shows that the Triple Solar heat pump panels together with the heat pump (specifically of the NIBE brand) as a source perform very well according to the existing standards in the Building Decree.
EPC calculation

Thanks to this statement, The Triple Solar® system can be included in an EPC calculation, and can therefore be used for new construction. For example: with a house built according to the current building decree, with heat recovery (WTW) with the Triple Solar® system, you get an EPC of -0.19 (entered at Uniec2).

The statement has been drawn up on the basis of the applicable assessment framework NEN 7120 – Energy Performance of Buildings (EPG). The document can be found in the Database of Controlled Quality Statements and Equivalence Statements.
